Homework

Homework that I assign is designed to give your child extra practice on the skills that we have worked on during class time and is individualized based on your child’s IEP.

The assignments from my class should be at your child’s independent level.  This means that they should complete the assignment on their own.  I will not be able to assess how they are progressing if parents are doing the work.  It is helpful to review directions and do an example with your child, but they should be actually completing it independently.  However, I do not want any child to be frustrated with their homework assignments.  Please call or write me if your child is struggling with their homework assignments so that I can make adjustments.

Social Studies, Science, and Health homework may be more difficult for your child.  Please help them as needed by reading the directions, pointing out information in the text, or reading the questions aloud.  Again, their answers should be their answers and not the parents.  We will modify this homework the best we can so that your child can be successful.  Each child has accommodations that we will follow that are listed in their IEP.  Again, if the homework in content areas becomes lengthy and very difficult, please contact me so that we can adjust.

Late and Missing Assignments

Part of your child’s success will be dependent upon their organizational skills.  I will do my best to keep them organized at school.  I will check agendas and books before sending them home each night.  It is important that all assignments are returned to school by their due date.

I will follow the school’s Detention Notice Policy which is- If an assignment is not turned in on time or is incomplete (more than 10% is left blank), a Detention Notice will be given.  A Detention Notice needs to be signed by a parent or guardian and states that the assignment needs to be completed, turned in the following morning, and will have 10% deducted from the grade.  If those things aren’t completed, the student will serve a detention the following day (3:30-4:00).  One of our secretaries will contact the parent or guardian to arrange this.
